Conventions in April

I'm heading to two conventions this month..in a row..wish me luck. My con endurance shall be truly tested!! First I'm heading down to NORWESCON in Seattle. I'm really excited because some of my favourite authors are going to be there, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Mark Teppo, Ken Scholes, Mary Robinette Koval, and the list goes on! AND since Jim Butcher is the guest of honour there are plenty of urban fantasy related panels scheduled, also perfect for me.

The next weekend I'll be at the World Horror Convention in Austin, Texas. Joe Hill is the guest of honour this year and he's pretty much the reason I'm going to that one again. (Last year it was in Brighton, England, an experience I'll never forget: best-con-ever!) I also get to sit on a martial arts panel at the convention, so while I'll feel guilty for missing classes while I'm goine, I'm excited for the panel. ;)

If you happen to be going to either of these conventions, keep an eye out and if you see me, HOLLA!!! In the meantime, take care of yourselves. :)

I'm Supposed to Blog Today

It's a workout day, which means I'm also supposed to blog. (to stick to my blogging goals!) I got nothing. However, I do have this adorable, hilarious picture of our boy cat. Or, at least I think it's great. He's doing his best impression of an LOLcat photo. So, here you go. My blog today is purely to solicit smiles. I hope it works and this entry gets categorized under Random Wickhamness, with credit to Spooky, the wacko cat. (get it, CATegorized)

Spring/Summer 8 Week Virtual Boot Camp

I guess I should begin recruiting for the NEXT Virtual Boot Camp!! Our last session went great, I'm happy to report we had some fabulous success stories, so I've decided to do it again. Starting May 8th, it will be 8 weeks of ME kicking YOUR butt. I mean come on, how fun does that sound?? (tee hee)

If you're interested or have any questions, let me know. Here's the blurb from my website about it:

Want to get in better shape for the summer 2011?

You can do it with a personalized workout program, including weekly check-ins and inspirational messages to keep you motivated throughout!

The bootcamp will be done entirely online via email. The group will start on the same day, but each participant will receive a personalized cardio and weight training program, suited to their goals, needs and schedule. The program can be designed for the gym, or to be done entirely at home, for as many or as few workouts per week as the particpant would like.

You can do the program on your own, or join in the private message board and connect with other participants.

Progress will be monitored by photographs at the beginning, mid-way point and conclusion, as well as weekly email check-ins. Programs will be modified if and when needed.

Start date: May 8th, 2011

Give Me Your Excuses!

For my next Fitness Nerd column for Functional Nerds I'm going to be addressing excuses for not working out and eating properly. Any excuses, all excuses, I will conquer them! As I said in my first column, "they’re just excuses, not reasons. Truly, there is no reason to be unhealthy."

What excuses are holding you back from a healthier life, keeping you from eating better, from improving your level of fitness? Hit me. I can take it. (well, I'd be careful on that one, I know how to hit back now)

I will take as many excuses as I can and turn it around to say why it's not an excuse and what you can do about it.

Note to the jokers, if you're really funny, I mean REALLY funny, I might give you an equally witty response. Otherwise, I'm looking for honest, straight up excuses as to what gets in the way of someone achieving a happy, healthy, optimally functional life.

Thanks for your help!

Something to Blog About

My plan to blog on workout days was going really well, until I got injured at martial arts (just a bit of a neck/back injury from a hard kick while pad holding, it's getting better) and I took a few days off the gym. Then I kind of lost my blogging groove. I also didn't have much to blog about. But now I do!!

My short story "I Can't Imagine" has been accepted by Crossed Genres. It will go online in issue #30, "Luck", in May. Crossed Genres is a great speculative fiction online magazine that has a different theme per issue.

I will let you know when it goes online!
